    Frequently Asked Questions

What does the ELO rating in this comparison actually measure?
ELO is a dynamic skill rating that rises when a fighter wins and falls when they lose, weighted by the quality of the opponent. Beating a higher-rated fighter earns more points than beating a lower-rated one, so a fighter who racks up wins against tough competition will out-rate someone padding a record against weaker opposition.
How is the win-probability edge calculated?
The edge meter converts the two fighters' ELO ratings into a win probability using the standard logistic ELO formula (a 400-point gap is roughly 91%/9%). It is a guide to the matchup on paper, not a guaranteed prediction — styles, layoffs, and form still decide fights, which is why we also show recent form, common opponents and the full tale of the tape.
What are "common opponents" and why do they matter?
Common opponents are fighters that both athletes have faced. When two fighters have never met, comparing how each did against shared opponents is one of the strongest ways to read a matchup — if one finished an opponent the other only edged on the cards, that is a meaningful signal.
Do the fan skill ratings count toward the ELO score?
No, they are separate. ELO is calculated purely from actual fight results, while the striking, grappling, and wrestling skill ratings reflect community votes, so use the fan ratings as subjective scouting color alongside the results-based ELO rather than as part of it.
