About Fewest UFC Wins Before a First Title Shot

The quickest routes to the belt - who needed the fewest UFC wins before their first undisputed title fight, won or lost

This leaderboard ranks UFC fighters by how few UFC wins they had when they first fought for an undisputed championship, whether they won that fight or not. It is the other end of the queue: these are the fighters for whom the usual climb did not apply - a champion signed from another promotion, a crossover star, a short-notice replacement, or the first title fight of a brand-new division.

Why the quickest routes are worth a board

Most fighters need a long run of UFC wins before the belt is put in front of them, and our most UFC wins before a first title shot board ranks the longest climbs. This board ranks the shortcuts. A shot after one or two UFC wins is not automatically undeserved - much of this list is made of fighters who were already champions or top contenders elsewhere - but it is the clearest record of when reputation and matchmaking, rather than a UFC record, decided who fought for the title.

Every fighter here eventually fought for an undisputed title or is booked to. For the run a fighter carried into that fight, see the longest win streaks to a first title shot; for the fighters who never got one at all, see most UFC wins without a title shot. Frequently Asked Questions

What does 0 wins mean on this board?
That the fighter went into their first undisputed UFC title fight without a single UFC win. Usually it means the title fight was their UFC debut - a champion or star signed from another promotion, or the first title fight of a newly created division. Occasionally it means every UFC bout before it was a loss or a draw.
What counts as a title shot here?
Only a fight for the undisputed UFC championship of a division, whether it was won or lost. Interim title fights do not count, and neither does the BMF belt, which sits outside any division's lineage. A fighter whose first title-type fight was for an interim belt is measured at their first undisputed title fight instead.
Does a title fight that has been booked but not fought count?
Yes. Once a fighter is booked for the undisputed championship they have their shot, so they are listed with the UFC wins they have so far from the day the bout is announced - the same rule as on all of our title-shot boards.
Are wins outside the UFC counted?
No. This counts UFC wins only, which is exactly why so many champions brought in from Pride, Strikeforce, WEC, Invicta or the regional scene score 0 or 1 here - their reputation was built elsewhere. Their full professional records are on their fighter profiles.
How are fighters on the same number ordered?
By how many UFC bouts they had before the shot - a debut title fight first - and then by date, oldest first. Inside a tie that order is history rather than a ranking: a fighter listed above another on the same number did not get there any faster.
