About Best Striking Differential in UFC History

This leaderboard ranks UFC fighters by striking differential: the significant strikes they land minus the significant strikes their opponents land on them, averaged across every fight on record. It is built by pairing each of a fighter's scored rounds with the opposing corner's record for that same fight and round, so the strikes absorbed are exactly the strikes their opponent was credited with landing. Only fighters with at least five scored fights appear, which keeps a single lopsided night from dominating the list.

Why differential is the best single striking number

Most striking stats capture only half of a fight. Total strikes landed rewards output while ignoring what came back, and accuracy rewards precision while ignoring how much a fighter got hit. Differential is the only common metric that scores both sides of the exchange at once, which is why the fighters at the top of this page tend to be the ones who genuinely dominated the striking phase rather than simply out-worked the clock. A large positive number means an opponent spent the fight eating shots without answering, and that is the profile of a fighter who controls range, defends well, and keeps producing.

What it does not measure is finishing power. A differential of plus fifty over three rounds and a fifteen-second head-kick knockout look nothing alike on this page, and the knockout will always look worse. Fighters who end nights early accumulate almost no differential, and grapplers who win from top control land relatively few significant strikes even while completely dominating. The metric also does not weight strike quality, so a career built on leg kicks and jabs at range can outscore one built on damaging power shots. Read it as a measure of sustained striking control, not of who would win a fight.

Pair this with accuracy to see whether a fighter's edge comes from precision or sheer output, and with our ELO rankings to check that the striking dominance came against real opposition rather than favourable matchmaking. The rest of our UFC stats hub carries the finishing, grappling, and damage-absorbed numbers that round out the analysis.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is striking differential?
It is the number of significant strikes a fighter lands minus the number they absorb, averaged across their fights. A differential of plus forty means that in a typical bout the fighter connects with forty more significant strikes than their opponent lands on them. It is the closest thing striking has to a plus-minus rating, because it credits offence and defence in a single number.
How do you know which strikes the opponent landed?
Every scored round is stored twice, once from each fighter's side. For each of a fighter's rounds we pull the opposing fighter's record of that same fight and same round, so the strikes absorbed are the strikes the other corner is credited with landing. Rounds are matched individually rather than at fight level, which keeps the comparison honest even where a round is missing from the record.
Why does a fighter need five fights to qualify?
A one-sided debut can produce a differential no career could sustain. Requiring at least five scored fights means the number reflects a run of performances against different styles rather than one favourable matchup, while still letting genuinely dominant newer fighters onto the board.
Does a big differential mean a fighter is untouchable?
No. Differential rewards fighters who compete at range and control distance for long stretches, so volume strikers and dominant point fighters score highest. A knockout artist who ends fights in ninety seconds accumulates very little differential, and a wrestler who spends rounds in top control is not landing enough to climb here either. It measures striking dominance over time, not danger.
