About Highest Takedown Accuracy in UFC History

Takedowns completed per attempt, minimum 20 career takedown attempts

This leaderboard ranks UFC fighters by takedown accuracy, the percentage of their attempted takedowns that actually finished with the opponent on the mat. Every figure is rebuilt from the round-by-round grappling record of each fighter's career, summing completed takedowns and attempted takedowns separately before dividing. Fighters need at least 20 career attempts to appear on the default view, and the high-volume tab raises the bar to 50 attempts to surface the fighters whose entire game is built around the shot.

What takedown accuracy tells you

A high percentage almost always signals two things: elite entries and elite timing. The fighters at the top of this list do not simply shoot harder than everyone else, they choose the moment. They set the shot up behind strikes, they change levels off an opponent's forward pressure, and they chain from a stopped single into a body lock rather than abandoning the attempt. That is why the names here tend to be either decorated amateur wrestlers or complete mixed martial artists whose striking makes the takedown invisible until it is finished.

The metric has clear limits. It rewards selectivity, so a fighter who attempts a takedown only when it is already three-quarters won will outrank a relentless chain wrestler who shoots twenty times a fight and lands twelve, even though the second fighter did far more grappling damage. It also says nothing about what happened after the takedown. Putting an opponent down and immediately being swept is scored identically to putting them down and holding them there for four minutes. And because opponents differ enormously in takedown defense, a fighter's percentage is partly a record of who they were matched against.

Read this page next to control time and ground strikes to separate the fighters who take opponents down from the fighters who keep them there and hurt them, next to takedowns per minute for volume, and against takedown defense for the other side of the exchange. Our ELO rankings show whether that grappling has converted into results at the top of a division, and the wider UFC stats hub covers the striking, finishing, and durability numbers that complete the profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is takedown accuracy calculated here?
We total every takedown a fighter has completed across every scored round of their UFC career, divide by every takedown they attempted, and turn the result into a percentage. The number is rebuilt from the raw completed-of-attempted records rather than pulled from a stored field, so it stays consistent whether a fighter shot twice in one bout or forty times across a decade.
Why is there a 20-attempt minimum?
Because rate stats collapse without one. A fighter who shot a single double-leg in their debut and landed it would sit at 100 percent and never be caught. Twenty career attempts is enough to separate genuine wrestling ability from a small run of good luck, and the 50-attempt tab isolates the fighters who have built entire careers on the shot.
Does a failed takedown always count against a fighter?
Yes, every attempt that does not put the opponent on the mat is recorded as a miss. That is a fair reflection of the risk involved, because a stuffed shot costs energy, surrenders position, and often invites a counter. It does mean fighters who chain wrestle relentlessly can post lower percentages than fighters who shoot only on a clean opening.
Is a high takedown percentage the same as being a good wrestler?
Not quite. Accuracy says nothing about what a fighter does once the takedown lands, how well they defend the shot themselves, or how much control time they accumulate. A striker who scores one opportunistic takedown a year at a high rate is not a better grappler than a decorated wrestler who shoots constantly.
