About Longest Win Streak to a First Title Shot
The longest runs that earned a shot - consecutive wins carried into a first undisputed title fight, won or lost
This leaderboard ranks UFC fighters by the length of the unbroken winning run they carried into their first undisputed title fight. Whether they won that fight does not matter - the streak is what earned the shot, not what the shot produced, so a fighter who climbed on ten straight and then lost the championship bout is on this board on the same terms as one who took the belt. The title fight itself is not counted. It is the record of the climbs that were impossible to ignore - the runs that made a title shot inevitable.
What a title run actually looks like
A no contest does not break the run. A draw does.
The two results are not the same thing. A draw is a fight that went the distance and was not won, so it ends a run here exactly as a loss would. A no contest is a fight waved off - an accidental eye poke, a clash of heads, an overturned result - and it is not a fight the fighter failed to win. It is skipped over: not counted as a win, but the bouts on either side of it are treated as consecutive.
Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad are both on this board because of it, and for the same fight - the no contest they had with each other in 2021, which sat in the middle of the run that carried each of them to the belt. Without that rule Edwards would read 1 instead of 9.
The number most often quoted about a new champion is their record, but a record spreads over a decade. The streak is the part that earns the shot: three or four consecutive wins is the usual price of a championship bout, and the fighters at the top of this board paid several times that. A run in double figures before a first belt is rare enough that it tends to define the fighter afterwards.
Because the anchor is the first UNDISPUTED title a fighter won, an interim belt does not stop the count - the run continues through it to the night the division had one champion again.
The other side of this is our longest win streak without a title shot board, which ranks the equally long runs that never produced a championship bout at all. See also most UFC wins before a first title shot, most title fight wins and the rest of our UFC statistics.
