About Most Wins Over UFC Champions

Wins over fighters who held an undisputed UFC title - before the fight or after it

This leaderboard ranks UFC fighters by how many wins they have over fighters who held an undisputed UFC championship at any point in their career. It is the mirror image of every other title board on the site: those measure what a fighter did with a belt, this one measures how often they beat the people who had one.

Before or after — both count

A fighter counts as a champion here if they ever held the undisputed belt, whether that was years before the fight in question or years after it. Beating someone in a prelim who goes on to win the title is evidence about the quality of that win, and this board treats it as such. The caption under each fighter separates out how many of their wins came against a sitting champion, which is the stricter and much rarer achievement.

Undisputed only

Interim titleholders do not qualify, and neither does the BMF belt. An interim championship exists because the real champion is unavailable, so beating an interim titleholder is not the same as beating the champion — the same rule our most title wins and title finishes boards apply.

What counts as a win over a champion?

Any win over a fighter who held an undisputed UFC title at some point in their career. The bout itself does not have to be a title fight, and most of them are not — beating a future champion in a prelim counts exactly the same as beating a reigning one in a main event. The caption under each name shows how many of the wins came while the opponent actually held the belt.

Why do wins over future champions count?

Because the question the board asks is how good the opposition turned out to be, and a belt is the clearest evidence we have of that. Amanda Nunes beat Germaine de Randamie in 2013 and Valentina Shevchenko in 2016 and 2017; all three of those opponents became champions afterwards, and pretending those wins were over ordinary fighters would misread her record badly. It cuts the other way too — a win over a long-retired former champion counts, which is why the caption separates out the ones won against a sitting titleholder.

Do interim champions count?

No. Only fighters who held the undisputed belt qualify, which is the same rule every title board on this site uses. An interim title is created when the champion cannot defend, so holding one is not the same as being the champion. The BMF belt does not count either — it is a one-off promotional title, not a division championship.

Does beating the same champion twice count twice?

Yes. The figure is a count of wins, so a fighter who beat one champion three times reads 3. The caption gives the number of different champions beside it, so you can tell those careers apart: Amanda Nunes's 10 wins are over 8 different champions, while Frankie Edgar's 5 are over 3.
