Control time counts the seconds a fighter spends owning position — on top, on the back, in mount, or pinning an opponent against the fence. Compressed into one round, it answers a narrower question than the career or fight versions of the stat: who has come closest to holding an opponent for an entire five minutes without ever giving the position back.
That constraint is what separates this record from its single-fight counterpart. A fight total rewards duration, so the deepest grappling shutouts there belong to five-round main events with far more canvas to fill. Inside one round the clock is identical for everyone on the card, and a takedown twenty seconds into an opening round on the prelims can produce a number that no championship performance is able to beat — only match.
How a round of control is measured
Each row is one fighter's accumulated control seconds within a single scored round, drawn from official per-round fight statistics and rendered as minutes and seconds.
