The Most Strikes From Distance, Clinch, and Ground in a UFC Fight
Fighters win at different ranges, and this record book celebrates dominance in each. It breaks single-fight striking down by position — distance, clinch, and ground — and ranks the greatest performances from every range. Switch tabs to explore each one.
Max Holloway's distance-striking barrage, Josh Barnett's clinch mauling, and Punahele Soriano's ground-and-pound each define their category. Use the Distance, Clinch, and Ground tabs and the division filter to see who ruled each range.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the single-fight records for distance, clinch, and ground strikes?
Max Holloway holds the distance-striking record with 439 strikes landed at range against Calvin Kattar in 2021. Josh Barnett tops the clinch list with 95 clinch strikes in a 2015 grappling-heavy bout, and Punahele Soriano leads the ground list with 136 ground strikes landed in a 2024 top-control clinic.
What do the Distance, Clinch, and Ground tabs represent?
Each tab ranks single-fight performances by significant strikes landed from that range. Distance strikes are the kickboxing exchanges at open range, clinch strikes come from close-quarters grappling against the cage, and ground strikes are the ground-and-pound landed from top position.
Why separate striking by position?
Position reveals how a fighter imposed their offense. A pure kickboxer racks up distance strikes, a dirty-boxing grappler dominates the clinch, and a positional wrestler piles up ground strikes. Splitting the data shows the many different ways to overwhelm an opponent.
Are ground strikes the same as control?
No. Control time measures how long a fighter held position, while ground strikes measure the actual damage landed from there. A fighter can control without striking much, or land a torrent of ground-and-pound — this list rewards the latter.
