Most Takedown Attempts in a UFC Round

Most takedown attempts in a single round, by one fighter or by both combined. Five-minute rounds only: UFC bouts with round-by-round data, 1999–present.

50 record performances

The most takedown attempts ever packed into one five-minute round — every shot tried, finished or stuffed, by a single fighter and by both fighters combined.

The Most Takedown Attempts in a Single UFC Round

Takedowns landed record the grappling that worked. Takedown attempts record the pressure itself — the level changes, the failed entries, the re-shots against the fence. Narrowed to one round, that pressure becomes a density measurement: how many times can a wrestler go to the legs before the horn.

This is where the round view separates from the fight view. Across a full bout, totals belong to whoever had the most minutes to build them, which hands the ceiling to five-round main events. Over a single round nobody has extra time to spend, so the ranking answers a narrower question — whose five minutes were the most relentless — and a prelim wrestler chasing a contract can answer it as loudly as a champion.

How these records are measured

Each row is one fighter's takedown attempts inside one scored round, taken from official round-by-round statistics. The Single Fighter tab isolates one athlete; Combined adds both corners together to find rounds where the wrestling ran in both directions. Filter by division to see the mark within a weight class, and follow any row through to the full fight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a takedown attempt inside one round?
Every shot credited by the official per-round statistics counts: singles, doubles, body locks, trips out of the clinch and reactive shots off a strike. A denied attempt still scores, and a fighter who chains three re-shots off one entry banks three attempts, which is why the leaders here tend to be wrestlers who refuse to reset after a stuff.
Why can a fighter who lost the round still rank near the top?
Because this list measures grappling volume, not the result. A wrestler can shoot ten or more times in five minutes, get stuffed on nearly all of them, absorb counters on the exit and still finish the round with one of the highest attempt counts on record. The scorecard punishes that round; the record book preserves it.
How does this differ from the takedown attempts in a fight record?
The fight record is a total, so a twenty-five-minute main event has five rounds in which to build it and almost always outranks a three-round prelim. Strip the timer back to a single round and the accumulation advantage disappears — a co-main or an untelevised opener sits on exactly the same five-minute footing as a title fight.
Which rounds produce the biggest attempt counts?
Both ends of a fight can. Fresh legs and a game plan built on early takedowns push round-one numbers up, while late surges come from wrestlers hunting a score they know they need or exploiting an opponent whose base has faded. Each row shows the round it came from, so the two patterns are easy to separate.
